Reformist writers were said to be playing on this very weakness in order to effect their plans-even at the expense of "duping" the less educated part of the public. ]. Likewise, those middle-class lawyers and men of letters that Burke saw as greatly responsible for the revolution in France had failed to attend to this fact of nature. It was only a matter of time, Burke predicted, before further violence would ensue.
